Gemini 3.8 Live powers Google Search Live

Google announced the release of Gemini 3.8 Live and 3.8 Live Extended Thinking models and 3.8 Live is now powering Search Live on the Google app. Google said3.8 Live is rolling out starting today on Search Live.

Rajan Patel, VP, Engineering for Search at Google, wrote, “New Gemini audio models just dropped – 3.8 Live is now powering real-time conversations in Search Live.”

He added that this gives you:

• More helpful responses, complete with web links to dive deeper
• Fluid multilingual support (you can switch languages mid-conversation)
• More natural, free-flowing interactions

How it works. Here is a video of it in action:

Then open the Google app, tap the new “Live” icon and verbally ask your question. You’ll hear an AI-generated audio response and you can follow up with another question. Google will also show links right on your screen so you can dig deeper to those links, if you are watching the screen.

Plus, if you want to look at the text version, there is a “transcript” link to see the conversation later. Tap the “transcript” button to view the text response and continue to ask questions by typing. If you want to revisit a Search Live response, pick up where you left off by heading to your AI Mode history. 

Why we care. Google continues to add Gemini to power parts of Google Search; from many search features, including AI Overviews, AI Mode, and many other components within Google Search, now also Search Live.

These models continue to get better and the results will change as these models change.
